We opened our store in over a century-old building which we restored, in 2002. Now, in 2009, we encompass two floors, making room for over 1,000 bolts of reproduction fabrics, and over 100 bolts of 100% wools.
Oh! I almost forgot our Baby Room.
We have found that many of our customers love quilt kits! We offer a large selection of kits, from bed-sized quilts to table runners to cuddly flannel baby quilts. The kits are complete with backing and binding included.
One of our staff, Laurie Simpson, is a fiber artist and a designer for Moda. With her sister Polly Minick, she has authored two books, Folk Art Friends: Hooked Rugs and Coordinating Quilts, and Everyday Folk Art: Hooked Rugs and Quilts to Make. Laurie also has a new line of patterns out that we are proud to carry. In Laurie’s classes here at Lake St. Mercantile, she shares her personal style, how-to techniques, and inspiration for your own artistic projects.
During the year, we offer a wide variety of classes for both the beginner and advanced quilter and stitcher. As always, we are participating in "Jo Morton's Little Women's Club."
We hope that you will stop in to see us, check out our beautiful building, and peruse all of the wonderful fabrics and samples that Lake Street Mercantile has to offer.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
